A bereavement doula specializes in dealing with grief-related to death. Although society commonly refers to pregnancy loss as "miscarriage," it can occur at different gestations and for different reasons, making it difficult to seek support. The constant factor in the loss community is death which often leads to disenfranchised grief. When we first started offering this program, we marketed it as "miscarriage doulas" but always taught about miscarriage, stillbirth, TFMR, and more types of loss. In order to validate that pregnancy loss is death, we need to think of it under the bereavement umbrella.

With this certification, you'll have the ability to refer to yourself as a Certified Bereavement Doula or a Certified Miscarriage Doula (whichever fits your business and work best!)

You can also title yourself as a Certified Bereavement Doula that specializes in miscarriage care.
